LATINO ECONOMIC IMPACT

U.S. Latino GDP was $3.6 trillion in 2022—the most recent data available— and growing. As a standalone economy, it is the fifth-largest global economy, surpassing India, United Kingdom, France and Canada. Most notable is that the Latino GDP is the second fastest-growing economy behind China (5.3%) and ahead of the U.S. economy, which currently ranks fourth.

Fueled by population growth, youth, business formation, improvements in educational attainment, and general upward mobility, the U.S. Latino economy expected to surpass Japan by 2024 and Germany by 2027. If current projections from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) hold true, U.S. Latinos could move up to be the fourth-largest economy by 2029

The Latino GDP in the World Stage

Who Runs the World? Latinas!

Women are a powerful force in society and in the economy. Of the combined $3.6 trillion in Latino GDP, Latinas represent $1.3 trillion, up from $661 billion in 2010. The total economic output of Latina females in 2021 is larger than the entire economy of the state of Florida. In fact, if Latinas were a standalone state, it would have the fourth-highest GDP behind California, Texas and New York.

Latinas are outpacing not only Latino men but also the national average in their annual growth rates of business and residential investments as well as personal consumption.

When it comes to salary growth and labor growth, Latinas are paving the way for the future, growing leaps and bounds above the shrinking general population and eclipsing non-Hispanic females.

In addition, from 2010 to 2021, Latina educational attainment grew 2.7 times that of non-Hispanic females in the U.S.

“It is not enough then to say that U.S. Latinas are drivers of economic growth and a critical source of resilience for the broader economy. They are drivers of economic vitality. U.S. Latinas are giving life to the U.S. economy, dando vida a la economía.”
