The Consumer Is Not One Story—It’s Many
August 5, 2026
The Hispanic market’s growth is undeniable—but growth figures alone don’t tell the whole story.
Economic and emotional uncertainty continues to shape how Hispanic consumers live, spend, and engage with brands. While Hispanic household incomes have risen and poverty has declined, 78% of Hispanic adults describe current economic conditions as only fair or poor. About half expect conditions to worsen in the coming year, and 42% worry that they or someone close to them could be deported.
At the same time, this community remains a powerful engine of entrepreneurship, innovation, and future growth. Latino- and Hispanic-owned businesses have grown at an average annual rate of 7.7%, compared with just 0.46% for all employer businesses. In 2022, they generated more than $653 billion in revenue and employed over 3.5 million people. Yet their potential is even greater: McKinsey estimates that closing the opportunity gap for Hispanic- and Latino-owned businesses could add more than $1 trillion to the U.S. economy and create millions of jobs.
The market is also remarkably young and increasingly digital. More than one-third of Hispanic consumers are under 21, while Gen Z and Millennial households account for 65% of Hispanic spending. In 2025, 30% of Hispanic consumer dollars were spent online, and 41% of U.S. Hispanic consumers shopped online at least weekly.
These aren’t competing narratives. Together, they reveal a dynamic community navigating real pressures while building businesses, influencing culture, and reshaping how America works and shops.
Brands that reduce this market to a single storyline—or engage Hispanic communities only as consumers rather than as partners, suppliers, and co-investors—will miss both the complexity of the present and the scale of the opportunity ahead. The strongest strategies listen deeply, respond with empathy, and reflect how people actually live.
